We shared some beginner-friendly welding projects a few months ago, from fruit bowls to welding carts. If you’re looking to continue building your skills, here are four more welding projects for welders of all levels, from useful items to art.
Mini Atomium
If you’re an artist (as many welders are), this mini Atomium project may be right up your alley. The Atomium is a landmark building located in Brussels, standing 335 feet tall. This mini version looks challenging to construct, but with the right tools, you can create an amazing gift or piece of garden art!
One helpful instruction in the project walkthrough is the construction of multiple pieces as a welding jig to support the ball bearings and rods. Having adequate and appropriate support pieces to support pieces being welded is an important step in many welding projects. Remember to stay safe and plan ahead!
Third Hand Tool
If you’ve ever found yourself wishing you just had one more hand during a welding project, this extensive video from weld.com is for you. You just need two pieces of rebar and a counterweight to make this handy tool to help you in welding.
Grinder Stand
If you’re looking for a project to be useful in your workshop, this video tutorial from Hobart gives instructions on how to build a grinder stand. It utilizes a few pieces of plate material and 3” X 3” tubing to give a grinder a place of its own.
Many times you can tune up your welding skills by working on something that is useful with simple pieces of metal. And if it goes wrong, just turn it into art!
Scrap Metal Art
Speaking of works of art, what better way to practice than to use scrap metal? Creating art removes the pressure of perfection and allows you to experiment with various kinds of metals and welds. This video showcases many different welding art pieces, from simple to challenging. If something inspires you, just jump in and start (safely) playing around with scrap metal. The best thing about art is there’s no right or wrong way to do it.
